The Lord’s Prayer
Below you will find a summary of this week’s teaching, along with daily prayer prompts. You can also download a printable version of the daily prompts.

Two weeks ago, we began our Summer of Prayer by looking at the disciples’ big question they asked Jesus: “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Today we looked at the prayer Jesus taught them to pray—one that we often call “The Lord’s Prayer,” but really, a better name for it would be “The Believer’s Prayer”!
Pastor Craig unpacked the first two simple words… “Our Father.” What a stunning picture, that the disciples could approach the Almighty Yahweh, their Lord and Master… with such intimacy! He isn’t distant! He is relational, tender… personal. But still Holy! We were reminded to maintain awe and reverence as we come before the Father; otherwise we treat God like a genie or “buddy” that merely grants our wishes.
“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 4:16). Our righteousness is filthy rags… but by faith, we receive the righteousness of Christ and pray effective, fervent prayers that accomplish MUCH!

This week, we will be praying through the Lord’s prayer each day, with a simple request: “Lord teach us how to pray.” You can use these steps to guide your prayer time:
Take 2-3 minutes to begin your time in prayer with something like this (you can change the words and make it your own), “Jesus, I thank you that you are the Great Teacher. Lord, teach me how to pray in the same way that you taught your disciples. Thank you for meeting with me and for leading me today.”
Next, read through the Lord’s prayer slowly and intentionally, speaking these words to God. Pay particular attention to the section that is in bold for that individual day.
If any words or phrases stand out, turn them into a conversation by thanking God for the truth of His Word and by asking the Holy Spirit to help you understand more.
Pause to listen in silence for a few moments.
Repeat steps 2-4 as many times as needed.
You may find the Lord directs your prayers in a particular way. Go with it! Often God speaks by putting someone/something on your mind to pray into.
Try to stay in a mindset of learning from Jesus as you pray, stopping often to listen. Remember, the very person who first spoke these words is right there with you to teach you!

Find a consistent time and place to set aside 20-30 minutes daily.
Print out the prayer prompts and Scriptures.
Invite family or roommates to join in, or find your own quiet space without distractions.
Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” and put it in the other room.
The prompts provided here are just a guide. Feel free to adjust and adapt during your prayer time.
Don’t worry if you miss one day. Just pick it up again the next day and keep going!

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen. -
