Prayers of Petition

We are invited to bring our petitions and requests before the Lord—what a privilege! Pastor Stephanie unpacked some keys in rightly approaching the Father with our requests:
We present our requests and petitions with thanksgiving and praise (Phil. 4:6).
We find rest in the finished work of the cross, which guards our hearts with peace in the waiting (Phil. 4:7).
We boldly approach His throne to ask for our needs, as humble sons and daughters (Heb. 4:16).
We ask for things according to His will, which is revealed in His word (1 John 5:14-15).
We ask and continue asking—the Father honours perseverance in prayer (Luke 11:5-10, Luke 18:1-8).
When prayers seem unanswered, we wait on the Lord and embrace the mystery. Faith must be connected to Him, not the outcome of an answered prayer. (Prov. 3:5-6; Isaiah 40:31; Heb. 11)

One of the ways we understand God’s will is through the promises we find in Scripture. This week, as you spend time making petitions to the Lord, you can use this list of promises found in Scripture to guide your prayer time. Each day, pause and see if there is a certain area that God has highlighted to you to pray about. Maybe one of the promises from the list stands out as particularly relevant to your current situation. Your prayer time could look like this:
Thank God for the truth of His word, for His faithfulness to us, and for the confidence we can have that He will come through on His promises.
Choose one of the promises from the list below and read the Scripture out loud.
Apply the Scripture to your own situation and make your petition known to God. Rephrase the verse and turn it into a prayer. (Remember, God knows exactly what you need before you even ask! He is a good Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.)
Ask the Holy Spirit for help believing in the promises of God’s Word, even when the fulfillment hasn’t come yet. Ask for courage, faith, and boldness to continue to pray.
Thank God that He hears your prayers and that He is faithful to keep His Word.
