Intercession
Below you will find a summary of this week’s teaching, along with daily prayer prompts. You can also download a printable version of the daily prompts.

Intercession is standing in the gap between God and others, asking for His will and resources to break into their lives. It is more than just a type of prayer, it is a lifestyle that we are called to embrace.
Biblical Examples:
1 Timothy 2:1-7 – We are called to pray for all, especially our leaders, that God's kingdom may come on earth as it is in heaven.
Acts 3:6 – Peter's healing of the beggar was an act of intercession, meeting a deeper need beyond what was asked for. Peter had access to the resources of heaven (“what I do have I give to you”) because he had cultivated a life of intimacy with Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:16-19 – We are called to this ministry of reconciliation, which Jesus modeled through His life and ministry.
Lifestyle of Prayer - Intimacy Before Action:
Intercession is not just an action but a lifestyle that all believers are called to, regardless of spiritual maturity or experience.
Jesus is our Mediator and example in prayer. We follow His model of bringing heaven's will to earth (“Your kingdom come, Your will be done”).
Luke 10:38-42 – Mary of Bethany chose the better part by sitting at Jesus' feet, emphasizing the importance of intimacy with Christ before any action. God is calling us to this same countercultural lifestyle of sitting at Jesus’s feet.
Intercession requires sitting, waiting, and listening to hear God’s heart before moving into service.
Persistence in Prayer:
Intercession is more about who we are praying to than what we are praying about. We come before a good Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
Luke 11:5-13 – Jesus teaches us to ask, seek, and knock persistently in prayer, trusting God to answer in His timing with His best gifts, especially the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NKJV
Read through the passage above and thank God for the opportunity to sit at His feet today.
Spend time meditating on the verses above and asking God to help you to apply them to your own life.
Ask God to reveal ways you’ve been distracted and worried, and repent of any times that you have had misplaced priorities.
Thank God for His grace—remember there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Now, pray something like this: “Jesus, I want to sit at Your feet today and hear Your words. Help me to stay a little bit longer, to go a little bit deeper, and to put out of mind all the distractions that would call me out of this place. I want to hear Your voice, I want to know Your heart, and I want to be where You are.”
Pause and be still for as long as you can. Stay a little longer.
Conclude in prayer as you feel led.
-
Begin by thanking God for the governmental authorities and rulers in this land. Thank Him for the times when our government has represented His kingdom well.
Take some time to pray over any specific leaders that come to mind, whether municipal, provincial, or federal. Ask for God’s will to be revealed in their lives and that they would be free from ungodly influences and inspired by God’s Holy Spirit to establish kingdom principles in our land.
Take time to listen for what is on God’s heart for our governmental leaders.
Repeat step 2-3 as many times as you feel prompted.
-
This prayer may be for extended family, friends, or your own family. Take time to thank God for these individuals and ask God to reveal His heart for each one of them.
If you have family members who are lost, pray for their salvation. Pray for any other specific needs that come to mind.
Ask God to highlight any individuals that are on His heart, and pray into their situations. If you don’t know what they are going through, you might pray in the Spirit on their behalf, or ask God to touch them with exactly what they need for today.
Repeat step 2-3 as many times as you feel prompted.
-
Thank God for your local church body and leaders. Thank Him for the many members of the body Christ in our city, province, and country.
Pray for specific members of the church body, whether leaders or otherwise. Ask for God’s good purposes for their lives, and ask for blessing upon those who call upon the name of God.
Ask God to highlight any individuals that you are to pray for today.
Repeat steps 2-3 as many times as you feel prompted.
